Hey Mama! Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 Review

You know I love a good planner so when the Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016 - 2017 from The Old Schoolhouse arrived, I was anxious to open it up and get going.  It's been one heck of a school year around here and I'm looking forward to getting all of my lesson ideas and extracurricular activities on paper as we move into this next academic year.

Hey Mama! Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 Review

The Hey Mama! Planner has ample space for writing and mapping out where we are headed.  The silver coiled wire binding makes for smooth turning pages that are held together well with no fear of coming loose.  This is a HUGE planner (196-pages) that will be super durable for all of my scribbles and scratches.   The front and back covers are sturdy cardstock with a glossy finish that easily wipes off when smudged and when I sit it on the countertop without checking to see what water droplets and food traces have been left behind.  Somebody was smart enough to add protective covers, so surely I'm not the only mama that does that?  Please tell me I'm not the only one.   The pages offer big spaces to write in and scratch out and write on again.  It is truly designed for the homeschooling mama and fits my on-the-go lifestyle quite well.

Did I mention that this Planner is HUGE?  It is chock-full of forms and charts that homeschooling mamas NEED to make school days run smoothly.  I'd love to give you a little preview of each of these necessary features, but first I want to make sure and tell you about the "Hey Mama" moments throughout the Planner.  I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the inspirational, devotionals that my friend Gena has added.  They help keep me sane and remind me that GOD loves me and mine and has a perfect plan for all of our days.  I don't know about you, but it sure is good for me to be reminded to model PEACE and JOY and totally rely on GOD to get me through each and every day.  Gena comes right alongside where I am and picks me up with her "you CAN do this" messages.  Do you ever need those affirmations in your homeschool?  Oh, boy, I know I do.

There are two-page spreads for each month beginning with the month of July 2016 and continuing all the way through June 2017.  The blocks are perfect for ordering my days and making sure we get done what we need to get done.

There are also two-page spreads for each week of a traditional school year and these allow you to completely personalize your Planner for your family.  You can put subjects studied across the top or side and make it specific for each of your kids, too.  You can choose to add the days of the week however you'd like to -- with Monday - Friday across the top OR all seven days down the side.  It's perfect because YOU decide how the Planner will best suit YOUR needs.  No "in-the-box" schooling necessary because you make this work for YOUR family.  I LOVE it!

There are sections for Monthly Goals, Semester Goals, and Yearly Goals with spaces for you to plan and track goals for all of your children/students in the following categories:  Educational, Spiritual, Physical, Personal Talents, Life Skills, Financial, and Relational.   This is simply invaluable to me as we assess where we've been, where we'd like our children to be, and how we are going to help them get there.  Character is important and the Goals Sections help me determine the path of least resistance for both of my at-home children.

There are  Attendance Charts to use if your state requires you to track attendance.  And even if it doesn't, you just might want to see for yourself how much school time your family does.

One of my favorite parts of this Planner comes in the form of General Writing Prompts and Story Starters.  Now, I don't know about your family, but there is definitely not enough creative writing going on at my house.  I think these prompts are perfect for helping my children get the creative juices flowing each morning.  I like starting our day with a short writing exercise and the prompts make it easy for me to do so.

If high school is on your radar, you're going to find the Academic Transcript helps to be a blessing in disguise.  These worksheets will aid you as you document your student's high school career and help prepare them for college.

Additional resources included in the Planner are charts to track all of the Books Read This Year, Curriculum Planning Sheets, a Homeschooling Contact List, and general information that all kids (and adults) should know.  There are pages that list the 13 Colonies, a Timeline of Inventions, pages that tell the order of the U.S. Presidents and First Ladies, pages that explain the Branches of Federal, State, and Local Governments, chart of the States and their Capitals, and even places to list all the Skills Learned in a school year.

Truly, this Planner is an organizational dream.  There is a place for EVERYTHING you need to know and do and teach and learn.  And just so you know, there is a digital version of the Planner available for purchase through SchoolhouseTeachers.com if that is more your style and you'd prefer to go that route.  Either way, you are going to simply fall in love with this Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner  so do yourself a favor and order yours today.  That way you can go ahead and get started organizing your new school year NOW.  I promise, you're going to LOVE it.
