Mother & Son: The Respect Effect {book review &giveaway} #MotherandSon #FlyBy

My favorite son turned 17 last week.  (I can share that he's my favorite, because he is my only son.)  I'm struggling a bit with the fact that he's 17 because really I'm pretty sure that it was just yesterday that those white blonde curls were starting to bob up and down as he learned to walk and talk.  It's been an interesting year as we adjust to hormonal changes and new roles.  My boy is working and driving and he doesn't need his momma's help like he used to.  Some days, I'm pretty sure he's decided he doesn't need my help at all.

And that's a tough thing sometimes.  Once a boy who always wanted his mom's opinion and now a man-child who no longer seeks my advice, my son is growing up.  With that new territory, love is not always enough.  I am realizing that my son also needs to feel his mother's respect.  Yes, he needs to respect me, but he also needs to know that I respect him and the man he is becoming.  That can be a foreign concept for us and I am thankful for a little help to make our relationship stronger than ever.

Mother & Son:  The Respect Effect -- What Every Mom Needs to Recognize in Her Son explains what respect really is and teaches me to understand what it looks like to boys.  Oh, how very different that is from how respect looks to my three daughters.  Through the pages of the book, moms are challenged to follow a game plan that will allow them to see the man inside their little boy.  What that means on a practical level is that I am reminded that GOD made my son just the way he is and that HE has a perfect plan for his life.  I desire for him to be ALL that GOD intends for him to be and to grow into a strong leader, a man of character, a vessel of grace.   The practical how-to guide of Mother & Son offers advice and teaches me a new way to strengthen my relationship with my son.  Mothers of boys of all ages will find a wealth of sound advice here as they dare to teach them about conquest, hierarchy, authority, insight, relationships, and sexuality.  It is a good read -- a very good read -- and will help you touch the heart of your son forever.

About the Book:  Hardcover, 281-pages which include 12 Chapters, 5 Appendixes to help build mom and son relationships, and a Bonus Chapter from the book Love & Respect in the Family

Mother & Son is a new book from W Publishing Group/HarperCollins written by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, author of Love & Respect that asks you to consider the all–important mother/son relationship in a new way: respect, as in the mother should respect the son.  His book Love & Respect is a landmark book that transformed millions of marital relationships.  IMother & Son, Dr. Eggerichs proposes that while showing love is important to a son, showing him respect is key to his heart, and what will transform the mother/son relationship.  Of course, to a lot of people, that will sound backwards – shouldn’t it start with the son respecting the mother??

Since the importance of the mother/son relationship crosses all age/race/religion barriers, this is a topic applicable to all – regardless if they agree or disagree with Dr. Eggerichs’ method.
