I was pleased to have been asked to use Amy Puetz's Countdown to Thanksgiving last year and am excited to share it with you this year. My children thoroughly enjoyed reading historical tidbits and stories, sharing speeches and proclamations, preparing new recipes (Angel Biscuits are divine!), playing games, and fashioning crafts together as our favorite family day approached. We enjoyed it so very much that we've pulled our book back out to go through it together again this year. You know something is GOOD when my kids want to do it again. It was just that special to our family.
Thanksgiving has long been one of my very favorite holidays and the way we celebrate has stayed much the same throughout the years. There are certain things that are traditional for us for Thanksgiving -- the MainMost bakes the yummiest Sweet Potato Casserole early on Thanksgiving morning as we watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and prepare to travel to Grandma and Papa's house. All or the family arrives at their house mid-morning for a smorgasbord of good eats. We pray together and play together and hang out and talk. There is always a BIG family picture on the front porch of Granny's old home place -- the house next door where Papa grew up. We are together just because we love each other -- no strings attached, no presents to compare. Thanksgiving is truly our family's refuge before the world goes mad. It's a special time and this year will be even more so because of the heart preparation we've done with Countdown to Thanksgiving. We come to the table even more grounded in our reason for giving thanks.
The 90-page eBook has a beautifully illustrated cover that truly beckons you to open it. The interior of the book is printed in mostly black and white but there are colorful accents throughout. Your family will enjoy the 14 days of Countdown as they share poetry, sing hymns, play games, and take quizzes to test their knowledge of history and faith together. Each day's activities are short, but meaningful, and will add quality time to your family gathering. They make perfect additions to "before" or "after" family mealtime OR can be incorporated for use throughout the school day. We've done both and are looking forward to repeating it in the weeks ahead.

Amy also has Countdown to books for Christmas and Easter and I'm hoping to use both of those as well. Intentional focus on the true meaning of a holiday helps put our family in the proper mindset as we make memories together. It opens our hearts more to one another and makes us mindful of those around us. We are blessed to have shared this Countdown opportunity together -- and wholeheartedly recommend it to you for your family as well. We've fallen in love with Golden Prairie Press and I think you will, too. This is homeschooling at its best!
Happy, happiest of Thanksgivings, my friends. Make it your best.
