For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21
I've always been fond of special boxes to hold those things that I deem treasures. As a little girl, I often dreamed of finding a chest full of gold and diamonds. As I've grown, I've learned that treasure comes in many shapes and sizes and the value varies from person to person.
I still like special boxes or containers to keep my treasures safe. Here are a few of the treasure boxes that surround me now:
The MainMost gifted me this beautiful jewelry box for our twenty-third wedding anniversary. I had always wanted one to hold my trinkets. Inside mine you will find the starfish necklace my children brought me home from LegoLand California, the bracelets I brought home from Thailand, the first ring I ever owned (it won't even fit my pinky now), earrings, the Gold Award Mother pins from my Girl Scout daughters, and the Eagle Scout Mother pin from my son. Much of what is hidden away in here would have no value on the street, but it means the world to me.
This box does not actually belong to me, but I find it charming. The Eagle Scout has chosen this box for his special treasure. It belonged to my grandfather and sat on a shelf in his study to hold his treasures long ago. I love that it has now come full circle.
This "box" covers my most prized possession. My family is safe and sound together inside the walls of our home.
I received this treasure box last week for my birthday from my OT1 daughter. She blessed me with thoughtful gifts and a card that makes my heart smile.
This last box brings treasures and delights from all over the world. I have ALWAYS enjoyed checking the mail. The anticipation of what might be there makes the walk to the box delightful. I do love a real, handwritten letter or card, but these days they are few and far between as people move to digital forms of communication. But, I'll keep looking and hoping with expectation.
Where do you keep the things that you treasure? One thing I know, the biggest treasure that I have is the love of JESUS and I do not have to hide it in a box under the bed. There is enough of JESUS that we can all share. HE loves us all and wants to be a part of our lives. My treasure can be found in HIM. My heart is HIS.
