Wherever the River Runs -- Book Review and Giveaway

There are many ways to begin a journey.  You can begin by packing a suitcase to head out into the world or you can begin by looking deep into your heart to find your whole.  Kelly Minter did both and she has shared that very personal journey with us as we trek forward on journeys of our own. Kelly offers encouragement and HOPE as she shares how her life was changed as she sailed the Amazon River on a boat called Discovery and found renewed purpose to minister to the "Amazon" of people that JESUS had placed in her own mission field.

And this has resonated with me in ways I never imagined it would.  It's been a challenging few months for me personally and I found Kelly's words to be spot-on as she spoke directly to my heart:  You can't always tell where you're going, but eventually you find HIM to be what HE has been all along: faithful.  Oh, that HE is ever-faithful and I am ever-grateful.  I needed to read this book myself as I continue to renew my HOPE.

A friend and I were talking just this week about needing to be reminded of GOD's grace in the midst of this life we've about "had enough of."  I've been remembering my two mission trips overseas and knowing that GOD has called me to more.  The empty faces of children still break my heart.  I know exactly what Kelly means when she says "I can only say that all those empty eyes in worn faces staring back at me, looking for me to say something, began a search to discover what JESUS actually came to offer."  Kelly Minter inspires me to continue moving forward in her first-hand account of what HE will do when we continue trusting HIM.  Her story is filled with GRACE and MERCY and all things JESUS.

A balm for the heart and soul, Wherever the River Runs:  how a forgotten people renewed my hope in the gospel is a must-read for all Christians that journey forth in this trouble-filled world that is not our home.  I am glad that I've had the opportunity to read this book as I cherish the sweet words and muster the courage to follow HIM even more and I wholeheartedly encourage you to read it as well.

About the book (from the back cover):  In Wherever the River Runs, Kelly Minter invites us on a journey down a river teeming with piranhas and caimans, as well as machete-wielding mothers, heroic jungle pastors, faith-filled children, and miracles too seldom experienced in our part of the world.  Kelly's honest and engaging narrative pulls back the curtain on one of the most captivating places on earth as well as on parts of the gospel we may be able to recite but have never fully believed.

On this beautiful adventure through the jungles of Brazil and the tangles of the soul, Kelly rediscovers JESUS among a forgotten people living well beyond the corners of her previously defined faith -- a people who draw her back to their country, their pain, and their hope in HIM, again and again.

Words of Praise for Wherever the River Runs:

"Kelly Minter writes the way a portrait artist paints." -- Beth Moore, Living Proof Ministries

"The best thing I can say about Wherever the River Runs is that I closed the last page, bowed my head, and said, 'GOD, send me too.'  Thank you, Kelly, for your courage, leadership, and faithfulness." -- Jen Hatmaker (speaker, blogger, and author of 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess)

  1. When the world gets to be too much, I dive harder into God's Word and prayer. I ask for prayer from friends I know will pray. And I get off of social media except for that required for my blogging job. - Lori H

  3. It usually ends up feeling like too much when I have been neglecting my Bible and quiet time. So I get back to reading my Bible. Occasionally, a Bible study has been helpful too.
