Barchowsky Fluent Handwriting -- Letters Make Words APP

There's a new APP in town for the iPad and I think you will want to check it out!  The Barchowsky Fluent Handwriting APP "Letters Make Words" is just the right mix of school and fun to keep kids of all ages interested.  Appropriate for students ages 4 and up, I used it with my 10-year-old Princess.  Although she DOES know how to write ALL of the letters in the alphabet, she has some strange techniques for quite a few of them.

I have a dear friend who is an Occupational Therapist and she spent some time with my Princess evaluating her writing technique.  Some of the ways that the Princess forms her letters are mind-baffling.  My friend recommended several "tricks of the trade" to begin correcting the Princess, but old habits are hard to cure.  Knowing that we need to move from print letters to cursive writing, I was thrilled when we were given the opportunity to review the Letters Make Words APP.  The Barchowsky Handwriting technique makes this transition from print to cursive much easier for the student.

When using the Letters Make Words APP, children trace letters directly on the iPad.  The tracing must be done with correct form, making letters in the proper sequence and direction.   She has moved from letters to words to sentences and is beginning to correct some of the messed up way she has been writing.  (The Princess has learned which direction to go to make the letter O -- counterclockwise instead of clockwise -- and and where to start to make the letter b.  She has learned to first make the LINE in the b -- before the circle --  and is not doubling up as much in her writing as she did prior to using the  Letters Make Words APP.)
