The Mighty Macs

Family time is precious to me and I strive to make sure that the time we spend together is special.  As parents, it is our job to help guard the hearts of our children and help them grow both physically and spiritually.  I think many times our culture hopes to find us with our guards down and we see the results of that in books, music and movies.

We're sports enthusiasts and we enjoy movies.  We had the opportunity this week to see an early screening of a fantastic FAMILY-friendly movie that was simply loved by ALL of us.  The Mighty Macs will hit theaters THIS Friday, October 21st and we recommend that you take YOUR family to see it.  It's a great story of sports, dreams, team spirit and FAITH.  Who could ask for more?  Watching this movie was special, QUALITY time for my family.

PhotobucketBased on a true story, The Mighty Macs tells the story of Immaculata College's attempt to win the first women's basketball championship in 1971 led by Coach Cathy Rush.  It's a classic tale of not giving up on your dreams and giving your very best at all times in all things.  We watch as the Immaculata basketball players go from being "individuals who are good at the game" to a true team with a heart for each other.

There were several things that really stood out to me as I watched the movie.  One of the first lines that really touched my heart was "If we didn't have to struggle, we'd never harvest the glory." How true that is!  And what a good lesson to learn early in life.

The only tough time that my family had while watching The Mighty Macs was during the bracket play when Immaculata went up against Mississippi State University.  Since we are MSU graduates and die-hard Bulldog fans, it was a little hard to cheer against them.  BUT caught up in the moment of such a feel-good film, we did just that!

1 Corinthians 9:24  says Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. The Mighty Macs is a good reminder that we need to RUN the RACE until the very end.  Do NOT give up.  Do NOT give in.  Anything can happen when we are committed to our dreams.
