Dinner at the Diamond

It's OFFICIALLY ball season!  The youngest McBlesssings had tryouts this week and we've heard from the coaches who drafted them.  The Favorite Son had his first baseball practice yesterday and the Softball Queen has her first practice this evening.  Checking out their practice schedules means we'll be running between fields on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday until the season kicks off.  Once the games begin, we'll be at the Diamond on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday--with multiple games on multiple fields many nights.

All of that has me thinking . . . I very much would like to provide healthier meal alternatives.  We've been guilty of having our Dinner at the Diamond many times in years past--they do serve the very best sausage dog! Vines' Sausage is a real treat, but THIS year I want to make sure that it is only a "once-in-a-while" treat.   We're determined to be better stewards of our bodies and our money.

Another mom and I discussed this very thing while our girls were trying out.  She recommended a great chicken salad to provide healthier alternatives during this season. We tried it yesterday and it IS delicious!  Now,  I'm looking for other recommendations as well.  Can you help me as I search out healthy, delicious foods that we can eat "on-the-run" between ball practice fields and game times?   I'd really appreciate your suggestions! Pin It Now!

  1. I have a GREAT pasta salad recipe to which you can add chicken, Lynn. It's delicious and is really better the second day. Course with your gang, not sure how much would be left the second day!LOL

  3. I have just one child who plays, and for back-to-back games, the team usually potlucks, where someone brings a grill and hotdogs for the "entree".
