Kid Scoop: Helping Reluctant Readers READ

PhotobucketI am a firm believer in the importance of READING and believe that everyone has the LOVE of READING hidden somewhere inside of them. Unfortunately though, for some of my children, it seems to be locked DEEP inside of them.  Can you relate?

I really do believe that reading WILL come for each child--that it absolutely WILL click when they are ready. I think that IF I can discover the right reading materials for each of their personalities, we'll see the LOVE OF READING take off and we won't be able to pull them away from books. That would make me one very happy mom!

Our youngest daughter has struggled to learn to read. She attends "Reading Club" twice a week where she is working with a tutor to master reading.  Although she's certainly old enough to read (9), her frustration level has been high and reading hasn't clicked with her until recently.   In the past, she has endured the teasing of other children;  but all of a sudden the letters have actually begun to form words in her head and she is seeing the world in a whole new way.   As we drive down the road, she is excited to read the signs that we pass.  She is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and her self-confidence is soaring!  She is realizing that she really CAN read.

My son (11) knows the fundamentals of reading but the actual love and enjoyment of reading have escaped him.  We've spent hours scouring the bookshelves of our library and local bookstore looking for anything that he would read; trying to find something to help unlock a passion for books.

The Reluctant Reader Solution by Kid Scoop has proven to be a neat resource for both my daughter and son.   A two-part digital product, The Reluctant Reader Solution consists of a PDF e-book of activities and an online newspaper for kids.  Using the weekly packets and enjoying the games and activities in the online newspaper (Kid Scoop News) have sparked my children's curiosity and opened the door to reading enjoyment.  The wide variety of topics available to study helped me find something for both of them to read.  I printed packets for each child and use them as a jump-start to the school day. The packets are self-explanatory and can be done without me hovering nearby.  The kids have enjoyed the change of pace each morning.  I have enjoyed seeing them read AND smile about it.

The Downloadable Activity Packets can be used as a supplement to almost anything you are studying. We enjoyed the Frost Packet when there were snow flurries falling outside, the Day of Service Packet on Martin Luther King Day, and the Valentine Fitness Packet on Valentine's Day.  With baseball and softball season about to kick off around here, I have the Baseball and Junkyard Sports packets printed out for the kids to begin work on next week.   I also have the Wants and Needs Packet on stand-by for the next time we need a good lesson in character. Written for 2nd - 6th graders, The Reluctant Reader Solution packets make a great addition to our day. You can take a look at a full sample packet about Backyard Carnivals here and see for yourself how much fun your reluctant reader can have.

The downloadable Reluctant Reader Solution is available HERE for $97.00.  For that price, you get 365 days of  exciting mini-unit activity sheets plus 12 months access to the full-color Kid Scoop News online--and the best part is it comes with an UNCONDITIONAL MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE.  You can also sign up for a free daily "Make Reading Fun Tip," a free monthly e-newsletter and you can download a free 2011 Planner HERE.  For even more information, check out Kid Scoop on FaceBook.
