It's beginning to feel a wee bit like Fall around here and that puts me in full-on planning mode.  Halloween candy has hit the aisle in my favorite supercenter and although we don't celebrate Halloween per se, we certainly celebrate Fall -- and that has me thinking about how I can use these precious pumpkin boxes to minister to kids this year at church.  We host an annual Trunk or Treat for the children in our community and I can't wait to share the Is There Anything Better Than Candy? Box-Tract from Let the Little Children Come with the families that attend.  For that matter, I can't wait to share them with the my Kid's Worship crew on Sunday night.  These little pumpkins are adorable -- and they hide an extra special sweet treat inside.  There's candy and JESUS, how about that?

The Halloween tracts come 20 to a package and they are super simple to put together.  Each pumpkin is on a perforated sheet of lightweight card stock that you separate and fold (or wrap) together.  The green stems fit into little slits on the top of each section (or petal) of the pumpkin to hold it sturdily in place.  The curvature of the stem fits perfectly into the little grooves, so you don't have to worry about your candy coming out OR being seen.
Y'all, this is easy peasy and precious to boot.  Seriously, in less than two minutes I had carefully punched the pumpkin out, folded it up, and stored a few bite-sized candies inside.  (My pumpkin has three candies inside, but I could easily have added one or two more.)  There's nothing like fun presentation to grab the attention of littles, but I'm quite certain that tweens, teens, and adults are going to enjoy these, too.

I know the children are going to love receiving the candy, but the best part of all is that the special "container" shares OH, SO MUCH MORE than a sweet treat.  On the flip side of the pumpkin, children will learn that there is something MUCH better than candy -- SOMEONE who loves them more than anything else in this entire world and wants to be their friend for life.

As children unfold the pumpkin "petals" to find their candy treasure, they (and their parents) find six short readings that take them through the plan of salvation.   How cool is that?  Not only do children get candy, but they get something that is FAR BETTER than candy.  They are introduced to a GOD who adores them and wants to spend the rest of eternity with them.

Truly, friends, there is nothing better.  How wonderful it is to be able to share GOD with those around us.  Let the Little Children Come makes it easy for us to do just that.
