Enough: 10 Things We Should Be Telling Teenage Girls -- Review and Giveaway #10Things

I have three daughters.  Two are in their teens -- ages 13 and 18 -- and one just left her teens behind in May.  This world that we live in makes it so very hard on them.  There are entirely too many expectations about things that just don't matter and not enough grace and mercy on the journey of life.  Instead of building them up, society likes to tear them down . . . bit by bit by bit.

My girls have struggled with identity and purpose and unconditional love of their beautiful selves and THIS HAS TO STOP.  As a middle school minister, I see the broken hearts and pain from girl drama every day.  As a teenager, your "BFF" may be quick to leave you behind and turn on you with claws out. And it hurts.  I spend a good portion of my days counseling sweet girls to hang on, offer grace, and love JESUS.  There's a great new book that offers us all a way to share TRUTH with girls through LOVE.

You may have read the post "Ten Things I Want To Tell Teenage Girls” by fellow blogger, Kate Connor, which garnered more than 2 million views in two weeks. (If you haven’t, you can check it out here: http://kateelizabethconner.com/ten-things-i-want-to-tell-teenage-girls/. )  I loved that post and was excited to read the book that helps us jump in the gap for those teenagers we love.

In the book based on her post, Kate Conner calls us to action in Enough: 10 Things You Should Be Telling Teenage Girls.   We all have teenage girls in our lives who we love, whether it’s a sister, a friend, or a daughter.  Kate has identified 10 things these girls need to hear today from someone who loves them -- me and you . . .  US.  Peppered with wit and laced with grace, Kate’s list tackles relevant issues like Facebook, emotions, drama, tanning beds, modesty, and flirtation. Woven into each chapter is a powerful message of worth that transcends age, and will touch the souls of women, young and old alike: You ARE beautiful.  You ARE valuable.  You ARE enough.

Kate offers real life ministry-in-action and shares hands-on ways to get your girl talking.  Every mom needs this book in her arsenal of hope for her daughters.  Every woman needs this book to help her help others make it through puberty.  Seriously, I plan to use Enough: 10 Things You Should Be Telling Teenage Girls as the basis for our Girl's Retreat this Fall.  It is simply that good.

A former youth-worker, wife to a college minister, and a young mom in her twenties, Conner stands squarely in generational gap, the perfect place from which to bridge it. Conner offers herself as a translator, helping you to speak your teenager’s language and equipping you with a fresh perspective from which to engage your teenage girl—one that may enable her to truly hear your heart (and your wisdom) for the first time since puberty.

  1. I don't have daughters (as such, I don't have a "favorite book for girls"), but there are a few girls in the neighborhood. I could minister to them or pass the book along to their parents/grandparents :)

  2. Favorite book for teen girls-- the Bible. My girls and I read a lot, but Scripture is without a doubt the most beneficial.

  6. Since we are not quite to the teen years yet, I don't have a favorite book for sharing with and encouraging my girls. I have a couple of the shelf that I recently bought but haven't read yet. This one sounds wonderful and we would be blessed to have a copy of it. - Lori H

  8. I only have a boy, Lynn----but sometimes I think that our boys can face very similar relational issues! The bullying can just look slightly different. I'd love to read this book!
