Schoolhouse Review: Math Made Easy

Photobucket

"I can teach my child how to multiply in only 6 weeks using fun, easy lessons that will engage her and have her asking for more?"   Yes, Please!  That's exactly what I want to hear.  You already know how we feel about math around here.  {And YES, I KNOW it is very important.}  So, ANY help I can get in that area is WELCOME music to my ears.

Using a "new way to teach an old subject," Glenda Brown James designed the entire Math Made Easy curriculum to help inspire students to learn addition and multiplication.  Extra help is always welcome with multiplication at my house, so we were glad to be able to give these methods a chance.  By eliminating the very easy-to-learn multiplication facts and the duplicate facts, the lesson plans included encourage students by pointing out how much faster it is to multiply numbers rather than add them.  Recommended for 3rd and 4th graders (and optionally for 5th and 6th graders who need additional work), I am pleased with how well my daughter has grasped the concepts taught.

With only 36 facts to memorize, Multiplication Teaching and Learning Made Easy helps your students master multiplication with hands-on activities in just 6 weeks time -- but without using their fingers.  That's a big plus for me because the Princess always wants to "cheat."  Beginning with a multiplication pre-test on the day you begin, your children will be excited about math lessons until the very last day when they take their post-test.  YOU will be excited to see how quickly they learn multiplication.  And if your house is anything like mine, you will be thrilled when your children do their daily worksheet without complaining because these worksheets are not boring and they do not take a tremendous amount of time.

PhotobucketA comb-bound book of 78 pages, Multiplication Teaching and Learning Made Easy includes activity pages to color code, puzzles to decipher, games to play (printed on cardstock!) and perforated flash cards to practice weekly.  This curriculum is absolutely ready-to-go.  All I needed to get the Princess started was a pair of scissors to cut apart the game pieces, a pencil for her work and crayons for the activity sheets that she would color.  Simplistic in design, the black and white pages made it easy to focus -- no distractions.  The coloring activities are like a "paint by number" set where you use certain colors based on the answers to multiplication problems.  This was a great way to get the Princess thinking in a non-threatening manner.  She likes to color and I like to watch her color as she figures out math problems.  It is wonderful to watch your child learn and see the lightbulbs click on inside her mind.

There is also another sample on the Math Made Easy website.  You can purchase your copy of Multiplication Teaching and Learning Made Easy for $24.95.  This includes everything you need to help your students master multiplication.   That's a great deal for this math-shy momma.
