Schoolhouse Review: Professor B

Does anyone in your homeschool need a refresher course in math?  If your children are anything like mine, math help is a good thing.  We were recently asked to review an online e-learning math program called Professor B that promises to help your children catch up on any deficiencies in math -- and help them to get ahead.  Professor B is a no-frills, no-nonsense math program that makes your child capable of mastering 3 years of math in 1 year.  Now I don't know about you, but 3 years in 1 sounds like a super plan to me.  {And it's a great way to boost my Princess' self-esteem.}

A three-level online program, Professor B takes a unique approach to teaching math.  It is designed for the parent to be the master teacher and spend quality time with their child/ren as they learn to appreciate math together.  Unlike other math curriculums that we have used on the computer, Professor B does not need bells or whistles to gain the attention of your student.  As a matter of fact, the "host" of Professor B Math is a bee who doesn't speak at all.  There are no songs or sounds to distract from learning.  Moms and Dads are encouraged to sit beside their learning child and narrate each lesson as they study.  This way your child is being encouraged and loved on by YOU and not a computerized narrator.  Isn't that why we started homeschooling in the first place?


An easy to set up and begin learning experience, Professor B covers the following for students up to 8th grade specifically (OR any older student who needs help):

• Multiplication and Division of Fractions

There are Placement Tests available to help you decide on which level your child should begin.  Once you have discovered that, the lessons are easy to begin.  The Princess and I sat down at the table with the computer between us and watched the lessons online (much like a PowerPoint slideshow) then printed out the workbook pages for her to complete.  Working together, math doesn't seem near as hard to her.  I look forward to utilizing Professor B for the rest of the summer and fall and will be excited to award my daughter her completion certificates as we work.  {How neat that Professor B includes these certificates to keep a smile on her face.}
